Post subject: Dec. '07 Feature / The Plane, the Plan

Hark! We have selected something for this month's "Flights" selection. But before I get to that...

This is going to be the last "Flights" pick for the time being. After two months of non-continuous soul searching, Lorna and I have decided that it's time to put this baby on break. We hope you guys have enjoyed our fanfic recommendations and discussions, and now--as is natural for a sprawling, play-it-by-ear kind of site--it's time to do some shelving.

I know "Flights" is an oft-visited feature of this site, so lest anyone be dismayed about said shelving, wondering if it portends something (it doesn't), I just wanna say

- Bravo's a bit of an experiment. We've scrapped things before that weren't going anywhere (like "Yesterday's News," my pitiful crack at fake fandom news), or that no longer served a purpose ("ToDWatch," which essentially became a plug for Canada), but believe me when I say we don't have a thing for casting pieces of the site into oblivion. After all, we've expanded the site, too, thanks to contributions ("Press," "Glossary," "Gallery," "Timeline"), demand (the "Chat Room"), and sheer opportunity (the "Burbank" pages). So while "Flights" is grounded for now, it's not necessarily going the way of the dodo bird.

- Whatever changes we make, one thing we won't change is our aim to be a pop culture resource to the words and music of Tour. And I'm comfortable saying that we've reached the point where we can ease up and let this open project develop as it will. "As it will" meaning, "probably very slowly and intermittently." (Hey, it's kind of a big project.) So if it goes all quiet on the western front and you're looking for signs of life, check "Recent Changes" for the latest song downloads, screenshot uploads, punctuation changes, changes to punctuation changes...

- Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't!*

So as we head into 2008, Bravo344 will be running leaner. Along with "Flights," "CastWatch" is also taking a bow for now, as Sheila and I are switching to a slightly enhanced, link-happy "Cast" page (read: "And now, over to you, IMDb").

Many thanks to Sheila for maintaining "CastWatch," and to Lorna for selecting and announcing the stories for "Flights," over the past several months. I'm so glad you gals are part of the site, you've done beautifully!

And now...

To close out the year, we're shining the spotlight not on fanfic, but on a Vietnam veteran's recollection of a moment in 'Nam:

Rats, I'm gonna miss this. I was always checking to see what author and story was going to be featured. We don't have any place that rec's stuff for the general fans. But thanks for having it as long as you did. I enjoyed having some of my stories featured. :)

Of course there's no reason why somebody else shouldn't share their own favourite fanfic with everybody and recommend something to read. Just a thought.

Considering that I have TourofdutyInfo.com, Tourofdutyjournals.com and tourofdutyvids.com, (all works in progress) my hands are a wee bit full for adding a place to rec stories. :) There was a time I was rec'ing on Journals but haven't in quite a while.

But I certainly appreciated the work done here by Erika and Lorna. I know first hand what hard work it is to maintain a website.

Thanks for the appreciation DC, I have so enjoyed trawling through all the great ToD fanfic out there, and I would like to thank Erika for giving me the opportunity to work on the wonderful project that is Bravo344.

As Erika says, the door is not closed on reactivating 'Flights' at some point in the future and I am not going to be stopping checking out all the great stories that are around.

DC, for what my opinion is worth, I am pretty sure I have read most of your work over on 'Journals' and 'Notes' and you are an excellent writer, so keep 'em coming!

You and Erika have done an awesome job of finding fics out there for all of us to enjoy in places I wasn't aware of in some cases.

And thank you for saying you enjoyed my stories. :) I'm still writing for both Journals and Notes. I've many more stories to tell!
